storage questions

Q: Are my artworks insured whilst in storage?

A: No. It is the responsibility of you, the owner, to insure individual artworks whilst in our care. If required we are happy to arrange insurance for you through our licensed insurance broker.

Q: Are your storage facilities climate controlled?

A: Yes - IAS operates museum quality climate controlled secure art storage rooms, in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane and Perth. Our climate controlled storage rooms which have been accredited by all major insurance underwriters, operate at 21°C and 50% relative humidity, which are the optimum atmospheric conditions for art storage.

Q: Will my artworks be secure and safe whilst in storage?

A: All IAS art storage facilities are based on world’s best practice. Our security is of the highest standard and has been audited by an industry leading government department’s inspection team and received high praise.

Our art storage rooms operate from non-branded and non-advertised locations. All small and large 2D or 3D artworks are stored within purpose built art racks, which are suspended off the ground to promote airflow.

We are able to track the movements of client artworks under our control via our in-house, Art Information Management System (AIMS) software program.

Q: What is the minimum term I can store my artwork for?

A: We are able to store your artworks for any length of time, one day, one week, many months or a number of years.

Q: Do you offer non-climate controlled art storage?

A: Within our storage facilities in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane and Perth, we have designated non-climate dust free art storage rooms to accommodate small and large 2D or 3D artworks.

Our art storage rooms operate from non-branded and non-advertised locations. All artworks are stored within purpose built art racks, which are suspended off the ground to promote airflow.

We are able to track the movements of client artworks under our control via our in-house, Art Information Management System (AIMS) software program.

Q: How do you protect against fire?

A: All of our art storage facilities have VESDA® (Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus) systems installed which is the most sophisticated smoke and fire detection system available.

Q: How do you protect against flood?

A: All of our art storage facilities are located in areas which are above 100-year-old flood lines. Our art storage rooms are independently constructed within the confines of our storage facility, which we refer to as “a room within a room”.

All client artwork is stored off the floor, within purpose built art racks, which promote airflow, but importantly protect against low lying water.

Q: Can I access my artwork whilst it is in storage?

A: Yes - IAS facilities offer separate viewing rooms which enable our clients the privacy of being able to view their collection in isolation, behind closed doors.

On receipt of 48 hours’ notice, we will schedule you an appointment with our storage registrar, select the artworks you have requested and have them available for your viewing on arrival.

Q: How do you keep track of the artworks I have in store?

A: We will register all artworks which we are storing for you via our in-house, Art Information Management System (AIMS) software program.

When your artworks arrive at our store, our Storage Registrar will generate an inventory of your artwork collection and enter all details into AIMS.

Each piece of your artwork collection will include the following information:

  • Unique client identification code:
  • Artist
  • Title
  • Accession code
  • Dimensions of work (W x L x H)
  • Description, including any specific client information or client reference code
  • And an image if available

As each piece of artwork moves through the storage process (e.g. relocated to its storage location) our art handlers scan the artworks barcode, via a hand-held barcode reader, which uploads and updates into AIMS, in real time. Meaning that at any given time we will be able to identify the status or storage location of every piece your artwork collection.

We are able provide you with a copy of your complete artwork inventory for your records and for insurance purposes.
